TV Streaming Series Pitch: Solstice

Logline: A grieving teenager, Julissa Grant, moves to Shasta City and uncovers her role in an ancient Lemurian prophecy, navigating love, loss, and supernatural powers beneath Mount Shasta’s mystical veil in a high-stakes fantasy saga.

Genre: Fantasy / Supernatural Drama / Coming-of-Age

Format: Hour-long serialized drama (10-12 episodes per season)

Target Audience: YA and adult fans of Twilight, Stranger Things, and His Dark Materials.

Tone: Mystical, emotional, and suspenseful with a blend of grounded teen drama and expansive supernatural lore.

Series Overview:

Solstice follows Julissa Grant, a 16-year-old reeling from the loss of her father, uncle, and boyfriend, as she relocates to Shasta City, California, with her struggling mother, Dierdra. Beneath the shadow of Mount Shasta—a legendary hub of spiritual energy—Julissa’s life unravels into a tapestry of ancient secrets, forbidden romance, and cosmic destiny. Drawn to Aaron Delmon, a charismatic teen with eerie abilities tied to the hidden Lemurian race, Julissa discovers she’s no ordinary girl but a pivotal figure in a prophecy to save an ancient civilization from extinction. As she grapples with her emerging powers, betrayals, and a post-apocalyptic future, Julissa must choose between love, sacrifice, and leadership in a world on the brink.

Season 1 Arc:

Julissa arrives in Shasta City, haunted by guilt over her boyfriend Chuck’s death on a frozen lake. She’s an outsider at Shasta High, clashing with her mother’s whiskey-soaked denial and navigating a budding friendship with rebellious Cherrie Dariush. When she meets Aaron Delmon, whose touch sparks visions of a lost paradise, Julissa is pulled into the orbit of the Delmon family—custodians of Lemurian secrets. Strange events escalate: Julissa finds a glowing crystal in Aaron’s locker, sees Mount Shasta’s “sacred” clouds, and uncovers her father’s cryptic logbook hinting at Lemurian ties. As she and Aaron grow closer, the sinister Belials—a cult opposing the Lemurians—target her, forcing Julissa to confront her role as a “surface equal” destined to bear a child who will save Telos, the hidden city beneath the mountain. The season ends with a storm-swept climb on Mount Shasta, where Julissa risks her life to save Aaron, awakening her latent powers and setting the stage for a larger battle.

Key Characters:

Julissa Grant (16): A resilient, guilt-ridden teen with untapped supernatural potential. Her journey from grief to empowerment drives the series, blending vulnerability with fierce determination.

Aaron Delmon (16): A brooding Lemurian with telepathic abilities and a magnetic pull. Torn between duty to his people and his love for Julissa, he’s both protector and enigma.

Cherrie Dariush (17): Julissa’s sardonic, street-smart ally with a troubled past. Her loyalty wavers as secrets about her own connection to the Lemurians surface.

Dierdra Grant (50): Julissa’s mother, a psychologist unraveling under grief and addiction. Her search for closure ties her to Shasta’s mysteries, complicating Julissa’s path.

Bernard Delmon (60): The gruff custodian of Shasta High and a Lemurian elder. He guides Julissa covertly, wielding subtle powers like reviving life with a touch.

Nani Doris (14): A precocious billionaire’s daughter and rival, whose arrival hints at Atlantean ties and a darker agenda.

World-Building:

Mount Shasta anchors the series as a character itself—a majestic, snow-capped volcano pulsing with spiritual and supernatural energy. The Lemurians, descendants of a sunken Pacific civilization, live in Telos, a subterranean city of crystal caverns and advanced technology, accessible through hidden portals. Their culture blends mysticism (the Law of One, life-force energy) with sci-fi elements (DNA ascendance, hibernation pods). Opposing them are the Belials, a shadowy cult, and later the Atlanteans, whose rivalry fuels a cosmic conflict. The surface world—Shasta City’s diners, taverns, and high school—grounds the fantastical, with local legends (Green Goat, Abraham’s Tree) weaving into the larger mythos. Visuals contrast gritty teen life with ethereal visions: glowing crystals, aurora-like mists, and apocalyptic vistas.

Thematic Core:

Solstice explores identity, sacrifice, and the search for belonging. Julissa’s coming-of-age mirrors humanity’s quest for meaning in a chaotic world. Love—romantic, familial, and communal—clashes with destiny, asking whether personal desires can coexist with collective survival. The series probes grief’s transformative power and the courage to embrace one’s purpose, even at great cost.

Why It Works for Streaming:

Bingeable Stakes: Each episode layers mysteries (What is Telos? Who are the Belials?) with emotional hooks (Julissa’s romance, Dierdra’s spiral), driving viewers to “next episode.”

Rich Visuals: Mount Shasta’s stark beauty, paired with VFX for Lemurian tech and visions, offers cinematic scope on a streaming budget.

Diverse Appeal: YA romance and supernatural intrigue attract teens, while mature themes of loss and legacy resonate with adults, rivaling The Vampire Diaries or Shadow and Bone.

Expandable Universe: The five-book source material supports multiple seasons, with room for spinoffs (Atlantean origins, Belial schemes). Season 1 plants seeds for a post-apocalyptic shift, ensuring longevity.

Cultural Resonance: Shasta’s New Age lore taps into spiritual trends, blending myth with grounded drama for broad appeal.

Creative Team Vision:

Showrunner: Seeking a visionary like Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf) to balance teen angst with mythic stakes.

Directors: Diverse voices like Nisha Ganatra for emotional depth and Justin Lin for action spectacle.

Writers: A room blending YA experts (Holly Black) and sci-fi/fantasy vets (Neil Gaiman) to craft layered lore.

VFX: Partner with Weta Digital for crystalline Telos and Shasta’s otherworldly glow, keeping costs lean with practical locations.

Why Hollywood Should Buy:

Solstice is a fresh yet familiar IP with built-in fandom from John J. Blenkush’s novels, offering low-risk adaptation. Its Pacific Northwest setting leverages affordable filming in Vancouver, doubling for Shasta. The series taps streaming’s hunger for female-led fantasy with crossover potential, rivaling Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga. Julissa’s arc—grief to goddess—resonates in a post-pandemic era craving hope and transformation. With scalable stakes (high school to apocalypse), Solstice promises seasons of serialized magic, merch (seed crystals, seeing-eye swords, Lemurian & Atlantean medallions), and global buzz.

Closing Hook:

In a world where mountains whisper ancient truths, one girl’s heart holds the key to humanity’s rebirth. Solstice isn’t just a story—it’s a call to rise, love, and fight for a future beyond the stars. Let’s climb this peak together.
